Music Education Programs

One of the primary missions of the South Arkansas Symphony is to educate, entertain, and inspire the audiences of the future. To accomplish this purpose, musicians, conductors, and staff work closely with school officials to implement programs of value that correlate with curricular goals.

Three programs are being offered to schools around South Arkansas. First, Children's Concerts are offered as a way for students to hear music with a professional full-piece orchestra.  Second, small chamber groups make special appearances to talk specifically about their instruments. Then, special masterclasses with guests artists are arranged for performance at indiviudal school sites.

In partnership with Carnegie Hall and the Weill Foundation, The South Arkansas Symphony offers a program for educating students of South Arkansas grades 3-5.  The Link Up program provides each student a music workbook and recorder.  Student are taught how to play the recorder, learn about specific instrument families through quartet performances, and perform with the symphony in a culminating concert.

To further enrich music experiences, the symphony is currently developing a music instruction site featuring musical instruments of the orchestra.  These videos and interactive lessons will allow students to receive quality instruction by professional musicians of the South Arkansas Symphony.
